Mrs. Barbara Harlin

October 28, 1957 — December 6, 2013

Harlin, Barbara Graham, age 56 passed away at her home in Franklin after a lengthy illness. She was an active community and school volunteer and co-owner of The Registry in downtown Franklin.
Born in Columbus, MS, she was a graduate of Caldwell High School. She graduated from the University of Alabama, where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega social sorority. She and her husband John Asbury Bacon Harlin met as students there and were married for 33 years.
After moving to Franklin in 1980, she became involved in the Junior League of Nashville, Worth Wear clothing, Battle Ground Academy Parents Club and Antiques Show Committee, Carter House Board of Directors. Nashville Panhellenic and The Grand Slam Dames Bridge Club. She was a member of Franklin First United Methodist Church.
Known for her ever-present smile, graciousness and Southern accent, she had a gift for putting people at ease. Barbara and her business partner Carla Myers welcomed visitors to The Registry from its opening 10 years ago. She loved the time she spent volunteering in the community, as well as time spent with family and friends. She was well-known for her optimistic spirit, telling everyone that no matter the situation, "everything is alright" and felt one should "never leave the house without earrings and lipstick."
The daughter of Jean Mathis Graham and the late Sidney Ray Graham, she is survived by her husband John; son, John Asbury Bacon Harlin Jr.; daughter, Graham Harlin Suscha (Chris); two grandchildren, Harlin Christopher Suscha and Louise Graham Suscha; and a sister, Belvia Graham Rodgers of Stuttgart, Arkansas.
The Harlin family would like to send a special thanks to the doctors and staff at Vanderbilt University Hospital and Alive Hospice.
Visitation is set for Monday from 4-7 p.m. at Franklin First United Methodist Church. Funeral services are set for Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to: Franklin First United Methodist Church, Vanderbilt Children's Hospital or the charity of your choice.
