KEMP, Gloria Fisher, died Tuesday night in Franklin,TN, after a long illness. She was 85. Gloria was born in Winona, MS on 20 April 1927. Her parents were Weeta Doxey Fisher (of Jackson) and P.D. Fisher. Siblings were the late Weeta Ellen Fisher Colebank of Natchez and the late Doxey Fisher of Jackson. Gloria attended Central High in Jackson and graduated in 1945. She was editor of the high school newspaper "The Tiger Talks". She graduated from Milsaps College in Jackson. She married Marion Thomas Kemp of Jackson in June of 1948. Gloria taught elementary school in Jackson for several years. She had four sons, Thomas, Kevin, David, and Christopher Doxey. The Kemps moved to Franklin, TN in 1975. Gloria worked for many years at the Heritage Foundation of Franklin, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving the historic resources in Franklin and Williamson County. She also bought antiques and books and sold them through Winchester Antique Mall in Franklin. Gloria was a cancer survivor. She was an avid reader of newspapers and literature throughout her life. Her favorite authors were from Mississippi, particularly William Faulkner and Eudora Welty. The Kemp family are members of First Presbyterian Church of Franklin. Survivors include grandchildren Elliott and Catherine. A service will be held at the church on Monday, 12 November at 2:00 PM.
