LY ANNE MARGARET THORMAN
September 27, 1932 - November 8, 2013
On Friday, November 8th, 2013 our blessed Ly Anne went home to her beloved Jesus. For many of us, her most memorable day was October 10 of 2010. On that day, Ly Anne was Baptized and made public her proclamation of faith in the everlasting redemption by the grace of Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior.
Her worldly accomplishments were many. A 1954 graduate from the University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor's of Science, Ly Anne and three of her friends became the first female cheerleaders in the Big Ten. After graduation, from UW, Ly Anne vowed never to be cold again and moved from Wisconsin to California. She began teaching school and earned a life teaching certificate for K - 12. Ever the adventurer, Ly Anne took out a loan from the Teacher's Credit Union to go to Europe for a summer school session but instead used the money to buy a "fixer-upper" house in La Jolla, California. The effort was successful and set her on a course in real estate. For the next 30 years she built a successful real estate company in La Jolla. During the Viet Nam war, Ly Anne headed a group dedicated to the return of our POWs and Missing in Action.
In Nashville, Ly Anne was a member of New Neighbors, a Charter Member of the Nashville Assistance League and the Garden Club.
The cancer hit Ly Anne in December of 2007 and she went into remission several times but each time the disease came back. Ly Anne knew that she needed more than just worldly things and through loving prayers came to the point of asking Pastor Brent Lawrence of Nashville First Church of the Nazarene to baptize her. However, Ly Anne had a dilemma. Due to the cancer, her hair was gone. She thought about wearing a wig.....but that seemed dishonest and wasteful (why ruin an expensive wig). Instead she entered the baptistery without hair. The choir cheered and Hallelujahs rang out. That day was memorable! Ly Anne left her pride behind and Jesus took her as she was. Ly Anne has dedicated herself to the service of Jesus. Her mission in life has been to help older women....(Ly Anne is now 81...typical)
She leaves behind: Husband, Richard Thorman of Franklin, TN, Step Daughters, Lisa Ann Rusche of Franklin, TN, Jennifer Lee Moss of Spring Hill, TN, Emily Jane Hennessy of Franklin, TN and a Step Son, Timothy Thorman of Madison, TN. Ly Anne was preceded in Death by a Step Father Clarence Vollmer and her Mother Marjorie Vollmer of Milwaukee.
