HARLIN, Mr. Thomas Clay, age 89. October 19. 2015. Born December 12th, 1925 in Nashville, Tennessee, the second son of Luella and Wirt Harlin. He attended Battle Ground Academy and graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. While there, he was President of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa Honorary Fraternity. Tom also met his wife of 56 years, Margaret Louise Bacon, a former Miss Vanderbilt. His lifelong career was in the industrial uniform business and he retired as Senior Vice President of Reed Manufacturing. He was a partner with his brother, Bill Harlin, in Harlinsdale Farms. He was Chairman of the Board and one of the co-founders of First Franklin Federal. Tom was active in the formation of United Way in Williamson County, served as President of the Williamson County Jaycees and as Chairman of the Franklin Special School District for nineteen years. He also served on the BGA Board of Trustees for twenty-one years. A former deacon of the 4th Avenue Church of Christ, he was a member of Peytonsville Road Church of Christ. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Bacon Harlin, sons Thomas Clay Harlin, Jr. and Robert Carter Harlin, brothers, Alex Harlin and Bob Harlin and daughter in law Barbara Graham Harlin. He is survived by his brother, Bill Harlin, and three children, Betty Harlin King (Sam), Helen Harlin Neal (Larry) and John Harlin; grandchildren Elizabeth King Moore (John), Catherine King DeVane (Wayne), Sam Carter King, Graham Harlin Suscha (Chris), Larry Hughes Neal (Whitney), John Harlin, Jr, Thomas Carter Neal (Cassie), Randy Purcell (Karen) and seven great grandchildren. Services will be Thursday, October 22nd, at 11am at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday from 5 until 7 and one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Tennessee Children's Home (Spring Hill) or the charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank the staff of Brookdale and Comfort Keepers for their excellent care.
