Murray Chidester

March 4, 1925 — January 11, 2016

Murray B. Chidester was a veteran of World War II, a mechanical engineer, and a real estate developer. He passed away on January 11, 2016 at The Manor at Steeplechase in Franklin, TN. He was 90 years old. He was preceded in death by his father, Murray B. Chidester, mother, Anna Wailes Chidester, sister Anna Mary Heywood, and dear British wife of 52 years Jean Stone Chidester.

Mr. Chidester is survived by five children, Murray B. (Charlene) Chidester of Brentwood, TN, Sandra (Robert) Trevathan of Highlands, NC, Elizabeth (Ray) VandeHoef of Longmont, CO, Philip (Claudia) Chidester of Austin, TX, Edward Chidester of Vista, CA; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mr. Chidester was born in Bowling Green, OH in 1925. He graduated cum laude from Culver Military Academy and earned a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University. He worked for General Motors Electro-Motive in the co-op program at Northwestern.

During World War II he served in the Army in the artillery, infantry, and ordnance sections. He was stationed in Germany for the occupation and attained the rank of Captain.

After the war, he owned a Chrysler-Plymouth and International Truck dealership in Cañon City, CO. He then moved to Dearborn, MI to work for the Ford Motor Company as an engineering manager. From there he moved to Asheville, NC where he was a real estate broker and constructed and owned several Hardee's restaurants. He also built custom homes in Asheville and created and taught the engineering technology curriculum at A-B Technical Institute. He retired to Tyler, TX then Sarasota, FL then Hendersonville, NC and finally to Franklin, TN. He was a proud member of the Hendersonville Honor Air Flight in 2007.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home in Franklin, TN. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Southeastern Guide Dogs, 4210 77th Street East, Palmetto, FL 34221
