Spring Hill

Spring Hill, TN – Nelson Queen, at the age of 87, joined his Savior in Heaven on March 28, 2024, preceded in death by his parents, Edward H. and Pauline Queen. Nelson is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Melba Harned Queen; daughters, Lori Queen Grasso (Lenny); and Julie Queen Bonney (Matt); son, John Nelson Queen (Sherri); three granddaughters, Millie Grasso Baker, (Will); Sydney Queen De Tellis (Luc); and Amelia Kate Bonney. Nelson is also survived by his nieces and nephews of the Harned and Miller families along with close family friends.

Nelson was a Veteran of the United States Navy, and as a humble, quiet achiever, enjoyed an impeccable 40-year air traffic control career.  He worked for 33 years with the Federal Aviation Administration. During the span of his career in the Atlanta Center, Jacksonville, Nashville, and Panama City Towers, he served as controller, training officer and recruiter, supervisor, and tower chief.  After his retirement from the FAA in 1994, he continued his career by overseeing the transition of the Panama City Tower from an FAA facility to a private contract facility with Robinson Aviation Inc. (RVA). Under RVA, he spent 7 additional years continuing his position as tower chief.

He had a deep respect for those who served our country and volunteered as a member of the Patriot Guard Riders honoring Fallen Military Heroes, First Responders, and honorably discharged Veterans. Nelson also dedicated his time over the years as a Little League football coach, Scout Leader and church youth leader.  His favorite hobby, spanning over 60 years, was motorcycle riding.  He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and playing guitar.

Nelson will be forever missed by those who loved & respected him. His devotion to God, country, his family, and friends was unwavering. Loved ones feel comforted in knowing that Nelson was welcomed by his Maker with the words, “Well done, thy good and faithful servant.”
