Nettie Patricia (Patsy) McClellan Poole, 81, of Nashville and former long-time resident of Decatur, Alabama, daughter of Sarah Belle Watson McClellan and Gee Hugh McClellan, went to be with the Lord on March 9, 2016. Proceeded nine days by her husband of 63 years and high school sweetheart, Alfred Delano Poole, and her loving daughter, Laurie Patricia Poole. Survived by her daughter, Melisa Currey and granddaughters Sarah McClellan Currey and Ellen Eastman Currey, brother, Hugh Augustus McClellan (Imelda), cousin, George Henry Watson (Ellen) and numerous nephew and nieces.
Patsy was born in Decatur and a graduate of Athens Bible School. She married at the tender age of 18, and moved to San Antonio with Al to be stationed at Fort Sam Houston during the Korean War. They returned to Decatur where they enjoyed traveling the world with their friends, especially England, Ireland and Scotland and loved to research the family's ancestry. Never phased by a problem on a trip, their travel took them to Jordon, where they spent a week without their luggage. Four years ago, Patsy and Al moved to Nashville to be near family. In their time spent together at Belmont Village, they enjoyed watercolors and sharing stories with friends around the dining table. Patsy was a member of the Ambassadors Club, Poetry Club, Red Hat Society and President of the Residents Council. She welcomed every new resident with a hello and invitation to her table.
Patsy came from a long line of helping others and her community. Her career began at her father's general store where they never turned away a hungry family during the Depression, and her father donated land for the local church and TB sanatorium. Patsy's and Al's care for others was displayed when they claimed the body of a former worker, who was abandoned by his family, to assure a proper burial. Most of her working career related to elements of finance. She worked for General Motors Acceptance Corporation, Decatur Iron and Steel, later retired from a long career with AmSouth as an officer. Many people moved their bank accounts due to the respect and trust they held for her. Patsy enjoyed membership in many organizations relating to work, community improvement, religion, and hobbies. Her hobbies were varied ranging from gardening to painting, and she was outstanding in all. She was knowledgeable, kind and cheerful to all. She radiated an "artsy" flare and was an excellent juggler of career and homemaker. It could be expected that one daughter became a respected art teacher and one daughter sought a career in finance and accounting. Occasionally, genes are equally parceled.
Patsy was a Christian woman, great wife, mother and grandmother, reader of books, worked a room like she was running for an office, caregiver to many aunts and uncles, lover of the color teal, could recite poetry and scripture, loved George Jones and cranberry salad, peanut butter and banana sandwiches, had the bluest eyes you've ever seen, a fan of David Lipscomb Lectures, archivist of her granddaughters' voicemail messages, clipper of newspaper articles, a writer of the lost art of letter writing, a leader, and a listener. She loved to spread cheer by telling everyone she loved them and she meant it. Patsy and Al enjoyed a fruitful, happy, and productive life while "laying up treasures in heaven", a fitting end to a 63 year old love story.
