Paula Kay Sandy Gilliland, age 69 flew away home to Jesus on April 28, 2016. She was the only child of Paul and Ethel McNeal Sandy. Her childhood and school years through high school were spent in Osborne, Kansas. After high school, she attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS, where she earned her Masters of Science degree in Home Economics. Paula met Jack Gilliland III while working in admissions at San Diego State College. Jack had returned from Vietnam and was attending college there. They were married and after Jack's graduation from college, they moved to Brentwood, TN where they raised their two sons. Paula has battled cancer for over 20 years astounding both her doctors and family with her perseverance and courage. She was a homemaker and managed a rental property business while raising her sons and dealing with both her husband's and her own health issues. She was a passionate advocate for the special needs population and supporter of BrightStone - Helping Adults with Special Needs. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack and her parents. She is survived by: sons, Jock, Paul and wife Paige, sister-of-the-heart (cousin) Jan Hedges, her special aunt and uncle, Lyle and Carol Dixon and other loving family and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted 2:00 PM, Tuesday May 3, 2016 at Christ United Methodist Church, 508 Franklin Road, Franklin, TN 37069 with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
