Phillip Hunsucker

April 13, 1938 — November 1, 2016

Phillip Barry Hunsucker, age 78 of Franklin, TN, formerly of Burnsville, NC, passed away November 1, 2016. Phil was a loving and selfless servant, an inspiring leader, a skilled handyman, tireless helper of anyone in need, and most of all the BEST husband, Dad and Pop-Pop. He loved sports, especially the Appalachian State University Mountaineers, the UNC Tarheels and the Pittsburgh Steelers. In Burnsville, he was chairman of the board of the Family Violence Coalition, chairman of the board and a tireless volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, and served on the board of Parkway Playhouse. Though he and his wife joined Franklin First United Methodist Church in 2015, he was a former member of Higgins Memorial United Methodist Church in Burnsville, serving as a volunteer in several ministries, as lay speaker, and past chair of the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee. Phil had a successful career in the scientific supply industry, working his way up from salesman to senior management at Riker, Fisher Scientific and VWR. He continued to work in the industry as an independent consultant even after retirement. Phil was born in High Point, NC, to the late G. Clemmer & Dorothy Lowe Hunsucker. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Science and Physical Education from Appalachian State University. Phil is gratefully remembered by his loving wife of 57 years, Beverly Byrd Hunsucker of Franklin, TN; sons, Jonathan Todd (Christine) Hunsucker of Loveland, CO & Stephen (Julie) Hunsucker of Seattle, WA; daughters, Cynthia (Randy) Wilkinson of Augusta, GA & Jennifer (Randy) Cummings of Franklin, TN; brother, Randall (Dianna) Hunsucker of Richmond, KY; grandchildren, Hayden (Sara) Hunsucker, Emily (Brice) Lucero, Robert Wilkinson, Samuel Wilkinson, Hannah Cummings, Beverly Wilkinson, Joey Hunsucker, Emma Cummings & Sophie Hunsucker; great-grandchildren, Adelayne & Oskar Hunsucker. The family would like to thank the staff of NHC Franklin for their exceptionally kind and loving care. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 5, 2016, with visitation one hour prior at Franklin First United Methodist Church Main Campus, 120 Aldersgate Way, Franklin, TN 37067, Dr. Lynn Hill and Rev. Roger Parker, officiating. Memorials may be made to Franklin First United Methodist Church, Higgins Memorial United Methodist Church in Burnsville, NC or Habitat for Humanity.
