HAVENS, Rev. Reeves C., Jr., age 94,of Fairview TN, retired minister of the United Methodist Church died November 9, 2010 in Franklin, TN. His career as a clergyman and chaplain spanned seven decades and several states, including New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Alaska and Tennessee. He attended Asbury College in Kentucky, received a Bachelor of Divinity in 1942 from Drew University in New Jersey. He & his devoted wife served churches in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York from 1942-1952 and as missionaries in Alaska from 1952-1958. He received his national Chaplaincy accreditation in 1959 and became chaplain of Methodist Hospital in Philadelphia, served as a pastor in Lancaster, PA, then as chaplain of a Methodist retirement home in Cornwall, PA until retiring in 1978. He continued to work in retirement, returning to Alaska with his family where he served churches in the Anchorage and Juneau areas before retiring a second time in 1992 and moving to central Tennessee where he filled in as visiting pastor at several churches until 2007. He was the first of three children, born in Binghamton, NY. His father was a Methodist minister as are his two brothers. Survived by: wife of 68 years, Geraldine Bowen Havens; son, Alan (Mary Ellen) Havens; daughters, Lynne (Don) Lovett, Rana (Barry) Wise and Maia (Amy) Havens; brothers, Bradley and Robert Havens; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Memorial services will be conducted 10:00 AM Friday, November 12, 2010 at Westview United Methodist Church in Fairview, Rev. Don Sensing officiating.
