Richard Pierce

Richard Weldon Pierce, age 67, of Franklin, TN, passed away Saturday, November 14 at his residence.

Richard is survived by his sister, Carolyn (Wyatt) Pierce Washburn of Batesville, Arkansas, and his brother, David (Elysia) Hayes Pierce of Fulton, Kentucky as well as his church family at Christ Community Church, Franklin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Edna Ruth Pierce and a brother, Jerry.

Born in Bradford, TN, Richard received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Asbury College, Wilmore, KY, and a Master of Arts in Education from Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, KY. He also received a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Louisville.

A Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Richard worked for a number of years with the Veterans Administration and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles as a counselor and therapist. Early in his career, he was an English and Psychology teacher at Southern High School in Louisville, KY. and as an English teacher and counselor at Samuel Noe Middle School, also in Louisville.

Richard was particularly proud of his leadership of the Williamson County Chapter of the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, which he founded.

He was a member of Christ Community Church and active in worship and Bible study groups.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, November 19 at Christ Community Church, 1215 Hillsboro Road, Franklin. There will be a time of fellowship at the church following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Community Church Deacon's Fund. Arrangements are being handled by Williamson Memorial.
