Rita Marie Trimble went to be with the Lord on June 6, 2024. She was a devout Orthodox Christian and was a member of St. Ignatius Antiochian Orthodox Church since 1990. She later became a member of St. Anna Mission in Columbia. She was born in Indianola, Nebraska on November 2, 1931, to the late Fredric Henry & Ellen Marie Powers Liess. In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her loving husband, Major Harry Howard Trimble. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Donald Charles Liess, sisters, Imelda Edith Liess Holloway (Ralph), Carol Francis Liess Brecht (Kenneth) Erickson (Harold) and sister-in law, Sherlyn Roundtree Liess. She is survived by her daughter Lisa Marie Trimble, grandson, Zachary Howard Trimble (Kathryn), great grandson, George John Trimble, born June 1, 2024, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother, Richard Austin Liess (Sherlyn) and sister-in-law, Dorthy Liess (Donald).
Rita loved the military life and the travels that went along with it. She was a stay-at-home mom until Lisa started to school. She taught second grade at Holy Spirit Catholic School for 7 years. She returned to Athens State College to receive her bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology and taught at Huntsville High School for approximately 7 years. Her husband wanted to travel and convinced her to retire so they could travel the U.S. When her grandson was born, her life was devoted to helping raise him. During his college years, she was always hosting his friends and teammates during the holiday seasons and beyond. Rita will be remembered for her love, generosity, hospitality, and Orthodox beliefs. She had numerous godchildren who she loved dearly and constantly prayed for the benefit of their souls.
