Vance, Robert Cecil, born July 19, 1926, in Wise County, VA, passed into his heavenly home on June 18 with family at his side. The last surviving child of Mary (Cross) and Samuel Vance, Bob joined the military near the end of World War II and during the course of his life served in the Korean Conflict, Berlin Crisis, Cuban Crisis, and Vietnam War. Having spent his youth in Virginia, he moved to Tennessee and lived in Morristown, Knoxville, and eventually moved to Nashville where he founded Ad-Vance Building Services, Inc. in 1969. Survivors include wife, Gay Nell; four children: Bobbie (Ron) Briggs of Maryville, TN; David (Vickie) Vance of Ooltewah, TN; Ben (Leah) Vance of San Francisco, CA; and Mary Elizabeth Vance of San Francisco, CA. Two step-children: Kayron L. Brewer of Seattle, WA and Michael (Sabrina) Brewer of Franklin, TN. Grandchildren: Sarah Briggs of Lincoln, NE; Ronald D. Briggs of New York City; Faith and William Vance of Ooltewah, TN; and Piper Grace Vance of San Francisco, CA. Two step-grandchildren: Zachary Michael Brewer and Adam Joseph Brewer of Franklin, TN. Great grandchildren: Clara Irene Briggs of New York City and Alaina Quinn Betz of Lincoln, NE; Paul and Ben Vance of Ooltewah, TN. Bob was a longtime member of Covenant Presbyterian Church of Nashville. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. Having touched the lives of many people, including friends, family, and employees, he was viewed as a solid oak tree. The family requests any memorials to be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, Alive Hospice of Nashville, and Middle Tennessee Boxer Rescue of Brentwood, TN. Particular thanks to Dr. Stanley Lee, his nurse, Amanda Walker of Nashville, TN, and Eric Plumb of San Francisco, CA, for their excellent care and concern during our time of need. Funeral Services will be conducted 3:00PM Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 33 Burton Hills Blvd. Nashville, TN, Jim Bachmann officiating. Interment, Mt. Hope Cemetery.
