Sally Eno Soden, 88, passed away of natural causes surrounded by family in Franklin, TN where she resided for the last few years. Sally was born October 23, 1928 to Robert W. Eno and Rachel Q. Eno of Colebrook Farm, Honesdale. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Eno, II and brother-in-law Joseph Gentile.
Sally is survived by her children M Lynn White of Barre de Navidad, Mexico, Kay (Mark) Hommrich of Nolensville, TN and John (Angela) Soden of Honesdale; grandchildren, Joshua White (Samantha), Scott Soden, Dr. Christina (Brian) Gillow, Gretchen Hommrich, Cara (Brian) Chomicki, and Kyle Soden; great grandchildren, Sean, Seth, Cassidy, Scott, Calum, and Weston, her caring brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Donald and Marion Eno of Westfield, NY and her loving sister, Ginny Gentile of Bonita Springs, FL and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Sally was born in Martinsburg, WV and lived the majority of her life in Wayne County. She graduated from Honesdale High School, Class of 1946, and later as a young mother earned her elementary education degree from Marywood College. Sally built her dream home on 15 acres of the family farm and loved to entertain family and friends there. Sally loved her family and in summer brought her grandchildren together from Honesdale and across the country for time together as cousins, exploring her woods, taking trips, and learning to cook.
Sally was a third grade teacher for Wayne Highlands School District for 30 years and loved teaching, often speaking of her students after she retired. She was active in the Wayne County Historical Society with a special interest in preservation of the Bethel one room schoolhouse. Sally loved being surrounded by books and spent many years volunteering and working on projects with the Wayne County Library. She enjoyed time with her bridge club friends, watercolor painting classes, and writing poetry about family and nature. She was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church, the Northeastern PA Weaver's guild, and Questers. Sally loved to travel the world with her family and friends, often going on Elder-hostels to continue her love of learning.
Visitation will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, Honesdale, PA on Friday, December 9, 2016 from 10:00 am to noon with funeral services to follow at noon with The Rev. Edward Erb officiating. Private interment of ashes to follow.
The family would like to thank her friends and family for their support, the staff and caregivers of NHC Cool Springs, Franklin, TN for their care and compassion, and the caregivers of ALIVE Hospice of Nashville, TN.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, Wayne County Historical Society, Wayne County Library, and ALIVE Hospice of Nashville, TN.
