February 20, 1930 — June 20, 2017

Samuel Oliver "S.O." Gillespie, age 87 of the Burwood Community passed away June 20, 2017. Lifelong Williamson County resident and farmer. Retired after 40 years from the Williamson County School Bus Garage as a bus driver. Member of Burwood United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing cards "pedro" on Monday nights at the Flat Creek Community Center. Preceded in death by parents, Wade & Rena Lillard Gillespie; brother, Billy Gillespie and son in-law, Ricky Johnson. Survived by children, Carol Barnhill of Antioch, TN, Randy (Barbara) Gillespie of Santa Fe, TN, Kaye Johnson of the Burwood Comm., Jerry (Shelia) Gillespie of Columbia, TN and Kim (Scott) Mynatt of Murfreesboro, TN; sisters, Dot (Allen) Marlin of Franklin, TN, Betty Sue Hazelwood of the Flat Creek Comm. and Brenda (William) Campbell of Franklin, TN; ten grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren;one great-great grandson and mother of his children, Anita Gillespie. Funeral service will be 11:00AM Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home, Raymond Johnson and Herschel Osborne officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Family will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Paris, Past & Present employees of the Williamson County Bus Garage, Friends at Flat Creek Community Center and Norris "Frog" Barker. Memorials may be made to the Gentry Education Fund or Burwood United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 4-8PM Friday and one hour prior to the service at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home, 615-794-2289. www.williamsonmemorial.com
