Sara JoWhite, Age 76. Died Friday, December 4, 2015, following a brief illness of cancer (leukemia). Born January 31, 1939 in Murfreesboro, Tn. Preceded in death by parents, Kruger W. Wallen and Sara Josephine Neel Wallen. Survived by spouse, James E. White; children, Sara Suzanne Shaffer (Derrel), James Edward White, Jr. (Karen); grandchildren, Melanie Fox Santiago (Carlos), Garrett Paul Fox, Jonathan Edward White (Kristen), Hannah Lee White; sister, Nancy Neel Wallen Adams; niece, Rebecca Adams Martin.
Grew up in Murfreesboro, Tn, went to Middle Tennessee State College where she studied music. Met and married Jim White, a U.S. Marine veteran on Nov. 26, 1958, married for 57 years, and spent her years as a loving homemaker, wife, and mother. Her volunteer service and hobbies included Girl Scout leader, gardening, tennis, bird watching, painting and biking. Raising and showing walking horses was a big part of her life, along with being a trail rider with the Tennessee Saddle Bags. Her love for horses also led her to work with the United Cerebral Palsy Therapeutic Riding Program. Sara Jo was an active volunteer in a drug and alcohol rehab program called Teen Challenge. With her husband, she was very active in political campaigns, and was a member of the Republican Women's Club of Davidson and Williamson Counties. As an avid historian of the Civil War, Sara Jo was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and a member of the Civil War Round Table. Sara Jo was a faithful Christian, and in her recent years was active at the Heritage Church of Christ. Over the years, her Christian service included teaching Sunday school classes, working at church camps, and supporting missionaries. Sara Jo was well known for her volunteer work at GraceWorks Ministries of Williamson County where she coordinated volunteers in the food pantry for the needy of her community. Sara Jo will certainly live on through the lives of many others, whom she impacted by her loving character.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the staff at Sarah Cannon Cancer Center and Alive Hospice for their care and compassion.
