Mrs. Sarah Olivia Clay Free, age 93 of Franklin, TN, passed away on May 21, 2017.
She was born in Boaz, Alabama on November 30, 1923, and grew up in Guntersville, AL where she was graduated from Marshall County High School. She received her B.S. degree from the University of North Alabama in Florence. While in college, she was editor of the student paper, Voted as a campus Favorite and named in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities.
She spent her adult life in Birmingham, AL, Miami, FL and the last years in Brentwood and Franklin, TN.
She enjoyed her later years volunteering as a "Pink Lady" at Williamson Medical Center. She was an avid reader and enjoyed all music, particularly classic.
She was a life-long member of the Church of Christ, attending Central Church of Christ in Miami, FL, Fourth Avenue Church of Christ in Franklin, TN and Brentwood Hills Church of Christ in Brentwood, TN.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Clark Free, Sr., parents, J.L. Clay and Dicie Walls Clay.
She is survived by sons, Joe Clark Free, Jr. of Minneapolis, MN and James Stephen (Kathryn) Free of Powder Springs, GA, grandson James Michael Free of Douglasville, GA, granddaughter, Mary Kathryn Free (Nathan) Clauss of Kennesaw, GA, great-grandson, Gabriel James Clauss, sister Louise Clay (William H.) Walker of Franklin, TN, nephews William H. Walker, Jr. of Franklin, TN, James Clay Walker of Brentwood, TN, Robert Louis Walker of Brentwood, TN and John Stewart (Kim) Walker of Franklin, TN.
She was forever grateful for the dedicated and loving care given to her by her doctors and health providers, especially Dr. Jim McGinley and Cindy Martin, also for the members of the Brentwood Hills Church of Christ and the dedicated staff of N.H.C. of Cool Springs. She was also grateful to the Heritage Church of Christ members and its minister, Steve Blackman, for their support and worship services at N.H.C.
Funeral services will be held at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 25, 2017 with internment to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 3-6 pm at Williamson Memorial.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Salvation Army.
