Mr. Sidney "Sid" Smith Corban, age 80 of Franklin, TN, passed away February 24, 2015. He was the Director of the State Dept. of Education/Vocational Rehabilitation for 40 years. Attended MTSU from 1953-1958 where he received his master's degree in Education. He was a standout quarterback and punter. In 1956, he set the record for the longest punt of 80 yards against Vanderbilt University. He still holds the record for the longest punt at MTSU. Member of the Peoples Church. Loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Billie Corban; son, Steven Corban; daughters, Cindy Brown & Sandy (Tommy) Ingram; grandchildren, Tripp Vaughn, Kaylie and Patrick Corban, Taylor and Sydney Ingram; brother, John "Jack" (Martha) Corban; sister Marylynne Haggard; several nieces and nephews, loving dog Mali. Visitation will be held on Friday February 27th from 4-8 pm and one hour prior to service. Services will be conducted 1:00 pm Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home, Dr. Rick White officiating. Burial Williamson Memorial Gardens. Active Pallbearers: Tommy Ingram, William "Doc" Williams, Ross Speilman, Ben Hurt, Jack Gambil, Jack VanHooser, Phillip Wagster and Jimmy Burr. Honorary Pallbearers: Bill Nichols, Mike Bays, Steve Byram. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Alive Hospice, The American Humane Society or the Wounded Warrior Project.
