Suzanne Morrison

April 22, 1947 — March 4, 2016

Suzanne Nichols Morrison passed away March 4, 2016. She left this life peacefully, at home, after a long battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was born April 22, 1947 in Nashville, TN to Jesse V Nichols and Nancy Stallings Nichols. She is survived by her husband Michael L Morrison, daughters, Stephanie (Rhett) Roberts, Heber City, UT, Kimberly (Guy) Shoop, Heber City, UT , sons Eric Morrison, Knoxville, TN, David (Jennifer) Morrison, Clarksville, TN, and Steven (Emily) Morrison, Memphis, TN, 19 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, William Nichols, Jesse Nichols III and a sister, Sarah Nichols as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter, Maggie Mae.
Suzanne was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in various leadership positions throughout her life. At the time of her death she was a member of the Thompsons Station 2nd Ward. She graduated from University of Memphis and University of Tennessee Graduate School of Social Work and then was employed as a social worker/counselor. Suzanne loved helping others and lived a life of service to those around her. She cared for many in various ways through both her church callings and her opportunities through work and the community. Suzanne was a very active and adventurous woman. She loved to hike, joining a hiking club, Tennessee Trails in Middle Tennessee, and hiking the Grand Canyon and Havasupai, AZ with her husband Mike and her family in recent years. Tennis was one of her favorite things, playing in a league and participating in the Tennessee State Senior Olympics until her diagnosis. She also loved to run short races, in the Senior Olympics. Suzanne also played bridge with the All States Club. Needless to say, she was a highly competitive person.
Suzanne loved to travel. As a child she moved often, being part of a military family, living in Germany, Massachusetts, and California, to name a few. She met her husband Mike in Anchorage, AK while they were both in high school. In more recent years they traveled to places such as New Zealand, Australia, Alaska, Bermuda and the Caribbean. Suzanne and Mike were married October 18, 1968 and raised a loving family of 5 children. After years of cooking and baking, gardening and sewing, she returned to school at the age of 48, graduating with high honors in 1999, even while enduring her first battle with cancer. Suzanne could do anything, canning and freezing food for her family that she grew in her garden, grinding wheat and baking the bread that they ate, sewing dresses for her daughters and teaching them to sew for themselves. She did everything that she set her mind to. She was even fluent in Spanish, speaking in Spanish to others anytime that she could. She has left this life at peace with God and her family, and looks forward to her next adventure.
