Thelma Lockhart

October 26, 1919 — April 2, 2017

Mrs. Thelma Josephine Franks Gold Lockhart, of Franklin, TN, joined the Church Triumphant on April 2, 2017. She was born October 26, 1919, in Walnut Grove, Hardin County, TN. She is survived by her loving husband, Lewis Lockhart; her sister, Glynna Dymple Franks and her sister-in-law, Jane Crockett Franks, all of Franklin; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lura Mangum and Jesse Newton Franks, Sr.; her sisters, Garnette Williams, Alice Paulk, Ruth Garrett, Alma Warden and Ruby Lynch, and brothers, Garald Franks, Don Franks, Charlie Franks, John Franks and J. N. Franks, Jr., and her first husband, A. R. Gold.
Thelma received a BS Degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 1940 and a Master's Degree in Education from Peabody College in 1959. She taught in the Metro School System for 30 years and 10 years as an adjunct instructor at Belmont University .
She was a member of Brentwood United Methodist Church, a life member of the Delta Pi Epsilon Society and a long standing member of the Fort Nashborough (formerly Belle Meade) Chapter of the DAR. She loved dancing with her husband, was an avid gardener and a fabulous cook! Thelma was a surrogate grandmother to her nieces and nephews and will be sorely missed.
Pallbearers will be Charles K. Franks, Michael A. Franks, J. N. Franks III, John Y. Franks, James C. D. Franks and Justin C. Franks. Services will be conducted on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 11:00 AM, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Franklin, TN, with The Reverend Dr. Michael Lippard officiating. Visitation will be at the church beginning at 9:00 AM. Interment will be in Williamson Memorial Gardens, Franklin, TN
