Timothy James Holcomb, age 72 of Franklin, TN died August 5th, 2016 at home with his immediate family present.
Tim, a native of Texas grew up in Mineola and attended Mineola High School moving with his family to Albuquerque New Mexico just before his senior year where he was part of the first graduating class at Monzano High School. He was an athlete lettering in track, wrestling, and football and was voted sportsman of the year at Monzano High School.
Tim was a scholarship athlete on the University of New Mexico Lobo's football team until feeling the call of ministry and joining the leadership of the Baptist student union on UNM's campus. Tim earned degrees and graduate degrees from UNM in Albuquerque NM, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Dallas TX and Midwestern Theological Seminary in Kansas City MO.
A Baptist minister that served on the staffs of churches in Texas, Missouri, Georgia and Mississippi until joining The Sunday School Board of the Southern Baptist Convention (Lifeway) in 1983. Tim retired from the Tennessee Baptist Convention in 2006 after 13 years. A lifelong student. A teacher, counselor, mentor and coach to many.
Preceded in death by his parents, Harold & Mary Vickery Holcomb. Survived by loving wife of 50 years, Janice Kenagy Holcomb; sons, T. Eric (Tiffany) Holcomb and J. Jason (Buffy) Holcomb all of Franklin, TN; sisters, Sue Ellen (Robert) Wittenmyer of Woodlands, TX and Luann Holcomb of Magnolia, TX; grandchildren, Hannah, Madeline, Ethan, Ruby and Merrill Holcomb. Services will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at Brentwood Baptist Church. Visitation 12:00-2:00pm, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:00pm. "The Brotherhood" will serve as honorary pallbearers.
