Victor Vaughan

Mr. Victor Lee Vaughan, age 73 of Franklin, TN passed away October 22, 2016. Born in Richland, MO to the late Wendell & Vivian Crick Vaughan. He enjoyed photography, reading, listening to music, watching movies and was an amateur astronomer. He was a 1960 graduate of Sunset High School in Dallas, TX where he played the trumpet. Victor attended college at TCU in Texas until he joined the Navy and served aboard the USS Francis Marion. After being honorably discharged he worked in computers at Black, Sivalls & Bryson in Kansas City, MO. The was during the Vietnam era. He said "my country is at war and I just can't sit here and do nothing". He joined the Air Force as a Staff Sergeant. In 1964, when he was 21 years old, he came home for a visit and took his sister Debbie to see "The Beatles" first tour of the US at Municipal Stadium in Kansas City. In the Air Force his firs assignment was K.I. Sawyer AFB, Marquette, Michigan, a SAC base. He volunteered for a Thai language school in Washington D.C. area and attended there for 1 year prior to being sent to Thailand for 1 year. He was a radio operator. After finishing that tour of duty, he was sent to Vance AFB, Enid, Oklahoma where he continued being a radio operator. His daughter, Allison was born there. While he finished his bachelor's degree at Phillips University in 1972. He applied to Officer Training School in San Antonio, TX. After graduating as a 2nd Lt., he was assigned to Keesler AFB, Biloxi, Mississippi. He was a radio operator here as well. He was honorably discharged after applying for an "early out" opportunity. After leaving the U.S. Air Force, June 1973 - May 1975 he worked for Maremont Corporation Kansas City, MO branch as a transportation manager, supervising a fleet of truck drivers delivering the product nationally. He was successful and in 1977 was transferred to City of Industry, California as a General Foreman. Later he was transferred back to Kansas City, MO as the Distribution Center Manager from 1977-1978 and as a Central Regional Manager until 1980. In 1981 he was Manager of Transportation in Nashville, TN and Bensenville, IL. Each move was an increase in responsibility. From 1981-2010 he was a software developer and installer. He self-taught himself six computer languages. He retired in 2010, but didn't stop working. He was a computer consultant and enjoyed his hobby of photography. Survived by wife, Sonnia Vaughan of Franklin, TN; son, Billy Kendra Langford of Knoxville, TN; daughters, Allison (Jason) Merriman of Nashville, TN and Deanna Langford of Franklin, TN; sister, Deborah Bellew of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Zachary, Jillian & Katie Merriman, Elizabeth & Coraline Langford; niece, Melissa Canonaco; nephews, Brent & Craig Bellew. Funeral service will be 9:00AM Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home, Father Bala celebrant. Burial will follow in Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Zachary Merriman, Chris Runnels, Jairo Prado, Oscar Prado, Michael Jones, Kendrick Jones, Thomas King, Derrick Harding, Matthew Harding, Robert Runnels & Jeff Norris. Visitation will be 3-8PM Wednesday and one hour prior to the service at WILLIAMSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 615-794-2289. www.williamsonmemorial.com
