Wanda Mae Garman Hook passed away on March 9, 2016, in Franklin, TN, where she settled in 2012 to be near family. Prior to moving to Tennessee, Wanda lived in Lillian, Alabama. She was long-time treasurer for the Alabama Senior Travel Club, and she planned many trips throughout the United States and around the world. An avid photographer, Wanda also loved gardening, playing dominoes, sewing, and keeping up with her many friends and family.
Wanda was born in Pennsylvania and raised in Detroit, Michigan. She married David M. Hook in 1946 after he returned from serving in the Navy during World War II. They settled in Kettering, Ohio, where she raised two children and worked for National Cash Register in the payroll department. Following her husband's death in 1993, Wanda moved to Alabama to be near her sister, and she spent 18 wonderful years enjoying life in a retirement community near the Gulf Coast.
Wanda was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Franklin, where she attended worship each week with other friends from the Brookdale Community. She was preceded in death by her husband, David M. Hook of Richmond, KY. She is survived by brother Russell (Virginia) Garman, of Southern Pines, NC; sister Naomi Stephens, of Xenia, OH; sister Wilma (Charles) Spivey, of Lillian, Alabama; daughter Cathy Lee Hook, of Placerville, CA; son David (Anne) Hook, of Franklin, TN; grandsons Stephen Hook and Andrew Hook; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Memorial services will be held Monday, March 14, 11:00 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 508 Franklin Rd., Franklin, TN, Rev. Carol Cavin-Dillon, officiating. Visitation will take place at the church beginning at 9:00 a.m. She will rest next to her husband at Valley View Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the music ministry of Christ United Methodist Church, 508 Franklin Rd. Franklin, TN 37069.
