William H. Rehrig, 74, died July 17, 2014. Preceding him in death were parents Frank and Matrona (Dorward) Rehrig and first wife Elaine Babinchak Rehrig. A longtime resident of Franklin, Tenn., he is survived by wife Holly (Holm) Rehrig, children Lisa (Ron) Rinehart, Roslyn Rehrig, Ross (Rachel) Rehrig, stepchildren David (Cami) Ebert, Heath (Tara) Ebert, Heather Ebert, Channing (Phil) DeShong, siblings Shirley (Norman, deceased) Greene, David (Brenda) Rehrig, Dennis (Linda) Rehrig, Dean (Linda) Rehrig, and numerous nieces, nephews and nine grandchildren.
He was born July 29, 1938, in Parryville, Penn., graduated from Lehighton High School in 1956, and received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Kutztown University. For nearly three decades, he managed and performed with some of the biggest names in country music, including Tanya Tucker, the late Jerry Reed, and Dolly Parton, on stages from Madison Square Garden to the Ryman Auditorium. He spent 20 years as personal manager and fiddler for Eddie Rabbitt until Rabbitt's death from cancer in 1998.
An expert fiddler and jazz guitarist, he frequently played alongside his brothers in Pennsylvania-based bands Twitty Fever and Midnight Special, as well as Tommy Schafer & the Blue Mountain Ramblers. After retiring from the road, he played with local bands in Tennessee, participated in Mark O'Connor's music camp, and spent many years passing on his passion and musical skills to local students of all ages, as well as his youngest family members.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to MusiCares (grammy.org/musicares) or Music Health Alliance (musichealthalliance.com), which provide a financial safety net for musicians in critical need.
