William Young, Jr.

Col. William Donnell "Don" Young, Jr. age 81 of Franklin, TN passed away April 16, 2016. Don was a Retired Colonel after 38 years of service with the U.S. Marine Corp. along with over 40 years of practicing law in Middle Tennessee. He attended Castle Heights Military Academy, completed his undergraduate studies in 1956 at Vanderbilt University and continued with his Doctors of Juris Prudence at the YMCA School of Law. Don was dedicated in giving of himself to others. He was mentor to many, and gave many hours of service. He was a true believer in Franklin and had an impact on this community while serving in various leadership roles. A member of Franklin Noon Rotary Club currently serving on the Board of Directors and a four time recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award. In addition serving currently on the Board of Directors with the J.L. Clay Senior Citizens. Member of the Elks Lodge #72, the Carnton Association, Heritage Foundation and the Downtown Franklin Association. Survived by wife of 37 years, Brenda Little Young of Franklin, TN; sons, William III "Donnie" (Kathy) Young of Madison, MS & Alex (Lessa) Murphy of Franklin, TN; sister, Betty Spurlock of Virginia; grandchildren, Will Young of New Orleans, LA & Allison (Barrett) Jacques of Nashville, TN and other loving family members. Funeral service will be held 11:00AM Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Historic Franklin United Methodist Church, Dr. Lynn Hill officiating. Interment, Williamson Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers: Jim Woodard, Lee Ofman, Robert Hassell, Pat McDade, Ken Covington, Russell Little & Tommy Little. Honorary pallbearers: Mary Pewitt and members of Franklin Noon Rotary. Memorials may be made First United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.
