William Pinson "Bill" Oxley

Memphis - 78 of Memphis, Tn., died peacefully on January 23, 2022, from natural causes. Bill was born on March 30, 1943, to Corinne (nee Pinson) and Otto Ellsworth (O. E.) Oxley in Memphis, Tn. His parents owned and operated several private airports in the Memphis area over many years. The most well-known was the Memphis Downtown Airport located on Mud Island, from 1959 – 1970. The Oxley's "Memphis Flying Services" operated the airport, as well as sold, stored, and serviced private planes, and taught many Mid Southerners how to fly! As a boy and a young man, he many times worked with his parents at the facility and loved to operate the pontoon ferryboat that ferried travelers and clients from the mainland across to the Island! He was a graduate of both the Memphis University School, and The University of Tennessee, where he was a passionate supporter of his beloved Tennessee Volunteers! "GO VOLS!" He loved to travel and started traveling the world when he was only 14 years old and continued traveling all his life! Jamaica was his favorite place to get away to his little place he loved and spend the day on a beautiful beach where he could swim, snorkel and sun all day! Being very social, he enjoyed meeting up with his friends, and strangers alike, after a hard day at work for "happy hour" drinks and hours of "shop talk", sharing stories and having a great laugh! But an especially great day was being on the golf course spending a beautiful day with friends! Bill had a very successful 45-year career in the Investment Securities Industry, where he was a long time Securities Trader specializing in both municipal bonds and mortgage-backed securities. Over the years he worked with many successful Securities Companies in Memphis, Houston, and Florida, but was happiest in the 15+ years where he served as Vice President of Trading at several Wall Street Securities Companies and Banks in New York City. Bill is survived by his wife, Tanya Brown Oxley, of Memphis, Tn; his sister Carol Ann Oxley Ihrig of Tampa, Fl.; his son Todd Oxley (wife Laura) of Anthem, AZ and their children: Sharla, Merina, Madeline, Victoria and Grayson; his son Bill Oxley, Jr., of Memphis, TN., and his daughter Elizabeth; his daughter Lisa Oxley Poteete (husband Josh) of Franklin, Tn, and their children: Latham, McKenzie Fulkerson (husband Nate), and Mack; his son, David Oxley (wife Aimee) of Memphis, Tn., and their children Drew and Jake; and his stepdaughter Hayley Hargraves of Forrest City, Ar., and her son Foster. He also leaves a niece and nephew and great nieces and nephews, and many old friends. The family has chosen to have a private memorial and celebration of life service at a future date. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tn. WILLIAMSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 615-794-2289 . www.williamsonmemorial.com
